We open the show with a lounge talk featuring Spencer, Bill, and long time friend of the show and one time listener Atlanta Mike. We cover a load of games including a litany of board games Atlanta Mike has been introducing his new crew to. We also get some advice on the “flow of games” to use when building up a non-board-gaming group toward Kingdom Death Monster.
Our main segment for the show is talking about Kickstarter. Spencer is not a fan of kickstarter, Atlanta Mike is a moderate fan but has dived into a couple, and Bill “may have a problem” if you believe the other two. We go through the guys reasons for using kickstarter (or not), experiences on kickstarter (good and bad), and overall thoughts.
We also have questions from the Twitter featuring Dr. Loxley’s speed round. Another challenger showed up by Dr. Loxley still brought the speed round questions for the win!

Our primary segment this episode is a discussion of Adepticon. We cover a host of topics such as travel to Adepticon and what our schedules look like. We dip a bit into why we each go to conventions and how those reasons have changed over the years. Spencer reveals a big change for his Adepticon 2016, and then gushes over a little bit of a fanboi moment.
After a nice and friendly Adepticon chat Spencer urges Bill to have a bit of a rant on the Guild Ball changes to Gutter. It wanders a bit, it’s not overly coherent, but it’s a rant.

Why not go back to one of the hallmarks of the Gamers Lounge and grab game creators to discuss their game. I am joined by Mat Hart, creator of Guild Ball in this episode. Mat and I talk for 2 full hours about Guild Ball, how the kickstarter is progressing, how the teams play, and how the rules have shaped up.
Mat also shared a hot preview of the Union team lineup on the Gamers Lounge website. Go check it out!!!

Episode 98 is a long one for you the dear listener. The show opens up with Bill giving a bit of an intro then dives straight into a discussion with Zach from Mini’s by Zach on commission painting. It’s a fun discussion about commission painting, Zach’s background, and then the general Gamers Lounge rambling.
Following that we dive into nearly 2 hours of good introduction and explanation for Relic Knights. Cheated Fate’s Joe is looking at the game and asked Bill and John to answer some questions for him. These turn into an in depth exploration of different mechanics of Relic Knights and a high level overview of how the game is played. This is good for anyone new to Relic Knights and especially good for any Malifaux players looking to start playing.
Enjoy!

]]>Episode 97 brings you two interviews with some fantastic information about Aetherium, due to hit the markets in November. Along with that we get some great glimpses behind the scenes at the kickstarter, the game graphic development, and also the interests and views of the people involved.
First up are Brian and Chris from Anvil-8 who join Bill for an hour long chat. In this segment we discuss what Gencon 2014 was like for the Anvil-8 guys. This was their last year to be “attendees” opposed to attending as Anvil-8 the exhibitor. Following that chat we talk about the Aetherium kickstarter, where things are at, and what steps are left to getting the game in the backers hands. We also chat a bit about future plans for the game.
Segment 2 is a chat with Mike “The Dark Templar” about his experience as the Graphic Designer for Aetherium. We have a great chat about the process and he lifts the curtain a bit on why a Graphic Designer is important to games.

Bill recently joined local podcasters and friends of the show, the Beerthralls for a special joint recording. In this “Strange Brew” episode, Bill and the Thralls talk about the depiction and overall approach to women in miniature gaming. Its an interesting discussion and should be fun to listen to for all involved.
The Beer Thrall’s are a group podcast covering Beer and Warmachine recorded in local drinking establishments (bars) in the Northern VA area. Check them out at:

Episode 96 has arrived after an unexpected month long hiatus! John and Dixon join me in the Gamers Lounge studio for a host of talk, some story time, and then more talk.
We open up with our typical intro, covering what we have done for the past month. This turns into a fairly intense talk about Relic Knights wrapped in a little rambling.
After that John gives a reading of the Winning story from the Mystery Battle Report Contest. Thank you Xander for a great battle report.
Our topic was set to be a short discussion of more Relics Knights, specifically about playing 70 point games vs 50 point games. We dive into that but also give a couple tips on playing relics knights that we have picked up so far.
That brings us to the second story, where Dixon gives a dramatic reading of the runner up battle report. Thank you Paul, I hope Dixon does the story justice.
Then we try to put together a short outro to sign off. This turns into a ramble about Wrath of Kings and a few other games that are incoming in the next couple months.
Hope you all enjoy!!!

This episode ended up going much longer than expected by both parties on the recording. What started as a conversation regarding “Why Not Wild West Exodus” quickly moved to a conversation about communities and changing community views. Chandler is a community leader who is the guy who ends up bringing new games to his play group. We talk about the challenges introducing new games into a group who has become entrenched with a specific game system.
Overall, I really think this is a great conversation for some insight into trying to lead your group to new games.

This is the episode where the great white whale of gaming kickstarters finally arrives, and we talk about it. That’s right, Relic Knights is in the house!
John Kickstarter Relic Knights, and I did not. John get’s me into playing the game and get’s me partially hooked. I have picked up Doctrine and we discuss that. In addition we try to give a beginners overview of the game and how it plays.

John has returned to the Gamers Lounge and episode 92 brings you the begining piece of our marathon recording session. In this episode Bill and John take a long, meandering hour to go over a lot of things that have been happening lately. It’s been a while since I got to just chat on the podcast about going’s on and we have a lot of fun with it.
Following the intro we dive into some of the challenges we are starting to face with Wild West Exodus. We discuss some of the limits we are starting to face and wonder (asking for feedback) if it’s because we are “playing wrong” or if it’s just the limits to the game.
Then there is the Outro where Bill is back solo and talks about some of the upcoming events and episodes.

I occasionally carry a camera in my gaming bag with the intention of taking pictures to record games for battle reports. I was browsing through that camera today and came across some pictures from a battle I took at some point in the past. I cannot remember everything that happened during the battle, but the pictures looked like fun. As such, I thought there would be a fun contest involved here.
Here is the deal. I have posted the 7 pictures from the Wild West Exodus battle report below, in the order they were taken. They map out events in a game. I am asking you, the listener, to write up a narrative battle report using these pictures in the order they come in. I will post the stories here and on the Wild West Exodus boards for public voting. The author of the favorite story will have that story read on a future Gamers Lounge recording in addition to receiving a $20 WWX gift certificate.
Please email entries to bill@gamerslounge.coda.net with the subject “Mystery Battle Report”. Make sure to annotate within the story where each of the 7 pictures should go in the narrative.
The pictures can be found at:
http://gamerslounge.coda.net/contest1/
Contest will run from July 1, 2014 through Midnight US EST July 31, 2014. Voting will be posted to the WWX forums for a week starting August 1st. I will announce the winner in the first Gamers Lounge show following August 9th, 2014.
]]>This episode has Bill all discombobulated and un-prepared. Michael was the guest I was expecting, but not the topic I thought he wanted to discuss. That said, Michael and I have a fantastic conversation about WWX, Books, Movies, and general Geekery.

The Developers Corner is an 8 part series of segments where Bill has picked out a series of questions to pose to game developers. Three game developers participate in this first series, Toby from GCT, Romeo from WWX, and Dave from BHG. In these three developers we have a new but established game (Bushido), a newly launched game (WWX), and a game still in development (No Future). All three game designers talk about how they tackled the specific scenarios presented in their games. The recording of these segments was accomplished over a 3 month period with a format of each developer independently answering the questions posed by Bill.
This 8th and final question asks the developers if they designed their game as a primary or secondary game for players. There are a lot of games on the market in the miniature war-gaming space, and their answers show the thought behind this quandary when designing a game.
I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks to Romeo, Dave, and Toby for participating in this series. I hope it’s helpful, insightful, and interesting to the listeners.

]]>Ok, maybe this episode is not all about competition, but it’s certainly got Dixon in it. Dixon is possibly the most competitive mini-wargamer I know, and a good friend. He joins me after a game of Malifaux Classic to talk about gaming, his world views, and some Malifaux and WWX. The conversation grows very long (nearly 3 hours) and wanders about a bit before we call off. Unfortunately there is no Developers Corner in this episode due to length and due to computer problems in the Gamers Lounge studio.

I wanted to let you know that while there is a delay on the next episode(s) of the Gamers Lounge, we will be returning. I have been involved in a great deal of travel since returning from Adepticon and have been unable to record. I have a series of post-adepticon interviews lined up, along with some fantastic guest hosts for the upcoming episodes. Unfortunately, work travel has made it so I cannot record until I get back in town.
For those who are wondering, I chose the picture appropriately. I will be in Dubai UAE on my next trip. If any listeners are there, message me and we can meet up.
More Gamers Lounge will be coming, stay tuned!!!

They came out very nice overall. Will suggested that I use a light spray of white while the covering was on the acrylic to draw out the etching. This worked great and I then used another suggestion to clean up the tokens once the paint had dried. The glue used for the coating can be a little sticky, making it tough to peal off the side with the etching once its painted. You can see the token in the picture to the right still has some of the detail occluded from the covering stuck in the smaller spaces. This was quick to fix with a q-tip and some windex. Once I learned that trick (again, thanks Will!!) the tokens cleaned up very nicely and easily. You can see in the final picture below the difference between the q-tip/windex method and the simple peel method. I’m still working through peeling and cleaning them up (as you can see!).
These are great and I suggest anyone who is interested contact Will and put in an order for tokens. He covers acrylic and wood tokens for a number of game systems!
